Dr. King...American Hero

This was a short week, and I am speaking only from Miss Jen's experience because I was gone this week.

We focused this week in Dr. Martin Luther King and what he did for our country.  We also learned about the letter M and reviewed a lot. The week was very short, but full of learning.

I will see you all next week when we will be learning about groundhogs and shadows.

Penguins, Penguins, Penguins

Well it was nice to be back this week.  Thank you for all the well wishes.

This week we learned all about the letter L, Penguins, Eskimos and Winter.  We had a really fun time!  We discussed Arctic and Antarctic animals, where they live and what they eat.  We also talked about the life of the Eskimo people, BRRRR!

The children especially loved our life sized penguin, they were able to measure themselves and see if they were as tall as the Emperor Penguin.  It was a really fun experiment.  We closed the week out making our marshmallow igloos, this was so much fun for all of the children.

Please remember that we do not have school next Monday or Tuesday.  Miss Jen will see you all on Wednesday, I will be out of town so please feel free to call her if you need anything.

Winter is upon us!

This week we began or section on winter, snow and mittens.  By the looks of the weather tonight I think this theme came just in time.

We also covered the letter K.

I would like to apologize for my unexpected absence this week.  My five year old son Ethan has suffered from epilepsy for the past two years.  Over the past two months, we have been struggling to keep his seizures under control.  Beginning last Friday he went into a tailspin of non-stop seizures.  He was rushed to Primary Children's Hospital where he and I have been residents ever since.  After five days of a very declining condition I am happy to say his condition has remained stable for two days.  We are hoping to leave the hospital soon to work at home on a long recovery process.  I hope to be back to school part time next week.  Miss Jen is doing a great job in class, as always, and we have been very lucky to have our parent volunteers available to assist her in class...luckily, I always expect the unexpected and have curriculum ready for the next few months.  I truly appreciate your understanding.  See you soon, I miss my students soooo much.

Quilting Bee

What a fun...and short week we had getting back to school.

This week our theme was quilts.  We had a great time making many types of quilts...mostly out of paper.

We also focused much of our time into getting back in the swing of things after our winter break.  We reviewed a lot.

We also began our mid-year testing.  I have completed testing on the PM class and should complete testing on the AM class next week.  I will post the sign up sheet for parent teacher conferences in the window next week.  Times will be available for the week of January 14th - 18th.  If you are interested in meeting and talking about the progress your child is making in every aspect of preschool make sure you sign up for a time.
