Presidents of the Past

Wow, well you will never guess where I am writing this weeks blog from...give up???  The hospital of course...I was admitted Thursday after school for a severe case of Pancreatitis.  I have been here for three days on a wonderful diet of ice chips that I spent hours begging for.  I hope to be released Sunday (cross my fingers) and back to school on Monday.  I am happy so many of our class parents work here, I have had lots of company.  Miss Jen has been living up here too (her husband has been battling cancer this year and he was having one of his final surgeries-it went well).  Needless to say, this type of thing better stop happening or we will have to start holding the Pre K class in one of the local hospitals...  :-)

This week was a short week, but that didn't stop us from learning all about our countries past presidents.

We focused most of our time on two of the greatest presidents our nation has ever seen...George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We learned about some of the great things they did for our country and that we can find their images in lots of places...Mount Rushmore, coins and currency.

Next week we will be learning all about Dr. Seuss (my favorite children's author of all time).  I can't wait!!!

Please check your child's Thursday folder for more information about our field trip to the Cinepointe 6 movie theatre next Friday at 11:00 AM.  This field trip is always a favorite for the parents and children.  Our hope is to see Wreck it Ralph, with Hotel Transylvania as our back up.  Please remember to return your envelope with your desire to attend or not marked by Wednesday.

Happy Valentine's Day!

This week we learned all about the meaning of Valentine's Day...LOVE.

We started with show and tell, bringing something we love.  I think it is fair to say super heroes and princesses are VERY loved.

We had a great time making valentine crafts and had lots of fun learning through valentine themed work.

I think the favorite learning activity of the week was graphing our conversation hearts.  Purple and green proved to be very common, while white and yellow were quite rare.

We loved making our valentine boxes, but I think the children definitely loved passing out and receiving valentines the most.

Don't forget, due to President's Day, next week is a short week.  See you on Wednesday.

Look Ma, I Brushed my Teeth!

This week we learned all about how to keep our bodies and teeth healthy.

We learned how to keep our teeth healthy by brushing them at least twice a day.  Don't forget to return your "My Tooth Brushing Chart" next week to get a special prize.  We also learned what food are healthy for our teeth and what foods might give us sugar bugs if we don't brush our teeth after eating them.  We made a fun tooth stencil out of a sponge and painted a picture with it.

Next, we learned about "My Healthy Plate".  We played a fun game that taught us to sort foods by food group and then used those food groups to build a healthy plate.  We took some healthy fruits and veggies and painted with them.  It was lots of fun!

We also learned about the letter O and the number 13.  We continue to practice our counting to 100 by 1's, 10's and have recently added 5's.  The children are doing great at this.

I want to remind parents that we completed mid-year assessments and if you did not have time to meet with me to go over it, I would be happy to set a time up for next week.

Next week we will be celebrating Valentine's Day.  Please remember to send a shoe box wrapped in plain paper (not decorated) to school for your child.  Also, you may send valentine's for your child to pass out on Thursday.  My AM class has 16 students (7 boys/9 girls), my PM class has 17 students (11 boys/6 girls).

Will the Groundhog See His Shadow???

Yeah, I am so happy to be back to school.

This week was all about the groundhog.  We discussed Groundhogs Day and we all made our own prediction about if the groundhog would see his shadow.  The classes were very split, but all of the children had a strong opinion.

We made some fun groundhog crafts (I think the burrow was the favorite) and experimented with shadows.  We turned out the lights and using a flashlight let everyone create shadows on the wall, this was really fun.

We also learned the letter N, the number 12 and talked a lot about opposites.

Next week we will be talking about nutrition and dental health.
